Different Dimension - Rainbows & Butterflies!

Swatch & Review

I placed an order at Different Dimension on Etsy at the end of August because I couldn't resist the polish to be had!  I have several nail polishes to review (including a custom polish!) but I'm starting off with Rainbows & Butterflies because it is the polish I tried first!

Holographic Nail Polish Topcoat Comparison

Hi everyone!  I have a sparkly post for today.  A comparison of Glitter Gal #707 Silver 3D Holo (or "Turbulence", as it is now known), Digital Nails Spectraflair Holographic Topcoat, and Hits Hefesto.  I have several pictures and will also compare the polishes in these aspects:
  • Price/value
  • Strength
  • Color clarity
  • Brush & Bottle
  • Formula
   Here we go!

My ring finger is modelling Glitter Gal Turbulence, middle finger wears Digital Nails Spectraflair Holographic Topcoat, and index is sitting pretty in Hits Hefesto.  Each polish is shown at one coat.  All have China Glaze Stone Cold as the black polish beneath, and my photos have been taken in sunlight.

Fish Scale Gradient Manicure

Here is a design that I thought up awhile back and recently got an excuse to try.  Chalkboard Nails is running a nail art contest for either warm or cool colors, and of course I picked cool.  My design?  Use heart-shape paillettes upside-down and tightly packed so that they look like fish scales!

I used China Glaze Refresh-mint as my base and pressed rows of scales into the polish, starting with fuchsia at the tips, then a row of lavender, and finishing the nail in baby blue.  My thumb nail had the colors staggered farther up the nail one one side.  This took two coats of Tough Coat and a coat of Poshe to seal everything and there was still texture, but it was an interesting, smooth texture, and it wore like iron.  I didn't shed a single scale!

Sadly having that many paillettes means quite a few bubbles.  They seem to form no matter how much time I take or how carefully I place the little spangles.  =(  Fortunately from a regular viewing distance they are hardly noticeable.  All the scales have a bright green-to-purple flash that shines and dazzles you in the light, haha.  No really, see the bright green flashes?

Aptly noticed by a middle-aged man at work: "Whoa, that's quite the paint job! I like your nails."

So, this isn't a very difficult mani, it just takes some patience and many, many heart-shape spangles.  (So many hearts littered the table after removal.  @_@)  But, I do feel it is original, and attainable for someone like me who isn't very steady-handed.  Next time I want to do a dragon-scale manicure, with heart scales (Pokémon reference!) in red, orange and yellow.  =D

Would you try this?  Leave me a comment!

Swatch & Review: Digital Nails polishes - Rainbow Dash & Spectraflair Holographic Topcoat

Today I'm happy to share my haul from Digital Nails.  I got these polishes last month and have had a lot of fun with them already!

I purchased these for myself: Rainbow Dash, Spectraflair Topcoat (x2), and the mini was sent along for free.  Before I get into the polishes swatches let me talk about buying from Digital Nails on etsy, which is run by a girl named Raphaelle.

Review & How-to: Bow Water Decal Manicure!

Today I'm happy to share a manicure using water decals that were sent to me for review.  I have to apologize, though, it's terribly late.  Two types of decals were sent by KKcenterHk earlier this year, but they showed up during the last-minute cramming for wedding preparations and right before my husband and I got the chicken pox - awful timing!  So they got packed away for later.  Anyway, I was given the chance to try nail decals for the first time ever in this way.  I'm happy with what I came up with using their cute bow design!

Keep reading to see how I created this mani and my thoughts on the water decal-ing process!

Finding Happily Ever After

Today marks 4 months since my husband Joe and I were married.  I have said very little about our wedding, wanting to take the time to explain what went on and why I was away longer than expected.  It took more time to put in writing than expected, but it let things settle in my mind.  Here is the tale of how we got married while dealing with unexpected complications.

It was April, we were deep in wedding preparations for our chosen date, May 5th.  Our wedding was going to be a simple affair, with the ceremony in the early afternoon that Saturday and a dessert reception to follow.  We had found a place to live; Joe was waiting on the keys still so he could move in.  I was busy with making a dress for my maid of honor.  At last on April 18th we were able to pick up the keys to our new home, but at that same time we came to a tragic realization...  Joe had the chicken pox.

Blog Makeover!

   Hello everyone!

Just a quick update today, and a few of my favorite pictures from August.  I redid my blog!  I wanted lighter colors and so this rainbow striped design came about...  The biggest new addition, or at least the most labor-intensive, is that I made my blog a new favicon.  Finally!  It has an animation (scrolling text) that runs just once each time it is loaded, but not immediately.  Let me know if you spot it!  I also pared down on some of the "clutter" in my sidebars and post footers.  I replaced my Find & Follow buttons with something less bulky, they came from C.W.Frosting.  I'm just missing a YouTube icon, and I might see about recoloring them to brown in the future.  They are really nice buttons that can be snagged for free, though.  Check out the above link to see what other styles are available.

Also, I've tested my blog on a few different devices, and haven't come across anything that looked screwy or didn't work, but if you notice anything please point it out to me, or let me know if you have any suggestions.  Thank-you!

Here are a few of my favorite Instagram shots from last month:

My husband and I traveled up through New York and saw nice views in Letchworth Park and the surrounding areas.  That was a very enjoyable day!

And a shot of how my natural nails have been doing.  My personal perfect length and decently shaped!  My Qtica helps so much!  And while this shot is black & white, I'm happy to say that they are stain-free, as well.  ;D

Goodbye to August, but I'm still clinging to the last bits of Summer!  How about you?  =)
